Comprehensive Review

As an expert witness in support of legal matters, the detailed review and summarization of deposition testimony is a large, vital component to the formation of opinions contained in expert reports.  For quite some time I was in search of a tool that could assist me in the timely compilation of deposition transcripts.  During the course of my search, I came across esumry and decided to give it a try with a trial use of the product  - I'm glad I did.

esumry is of great assistance to me in some very distinct ways, here are some examples where esumry lends value in the course of my expert witness work:

  1. Prior to esumry I was utilizing the old method of reading a deposition in pdf and making use of the highlighting tool to identify needed portions of the transcript.  I would then go back after review, making my way through the transcript a second time, cutting and pasting the verbiage needed from the transcript into my report, and noting the page and line numbers accordingly.  This was a long and tedious process

  2. The notes tool in esumry streamlines the process and helps in identifying and noting key points in the deposition testimony during the course of reading through the transcript, immediately allowing for note taking and cross-referencing of page and line numbers of where the transcript testimony was derived.  The review, note taking and cross-referencing is done a single time.

  3. You can highlight specific portions of the testimony and the AI feature of the software will summarize what that particular portion of the testimony is conveying.  At that point, you can massage this summarization with your own thoughts to suit your needs.

  4. Once finished with review of the deposition, all of the notes you've compiled are available via a downloadable MS Word file to assist in the basis of report formulation.  The file makes it very easy to directly port all or portions of the information noted and insert them directly into the expert report where it is of value in forming the basis of opinions.

  5. I also make use of the AI feature of esumry to validate the basis of my opinions as a back check.  Once I have formed my opinions and conclusions relative to the matter, I have the AI in esumry summarize the deposition transcript in detail.  At that point, it is easy to compare the AI summarization to the written opinion as a virtual peer review of the report you've compiled.  This doesn't take the place of actual peer review of my work which is still done but nonetheless, it is still very helpful.

  6. The keyword search feature within the product proves to be invaluable when in search of specific words or phrases in order to hone in on particular testimony without having to go back and read lengthy portions of the text to find what I'm looking for.

I'm glad I found esumry.  It has helped me to be a more effective, efficient expert to retaining counsel when working on legal casework.
